Suki, The director chosen for the 'Train to Gain' commercial, got some great performances out of the two actors and allowed them to tell the story with a smile. I think the ad is beautifully paced and subtly makes it point without being heavy handed. Behind the scenes Commercials took my tight time constraints (from brief to finished ad in just two weeks) and produced the goods with flair. Naturally, I took all the credit back at the agency, but then that’s creatives for you.”
'From the onset I had a very clear vision of what we needed to achieve, so I was delighted when Commercials Unlimited proposed moving the shoot to Barcelona to overcome the problems of (potentially) poor light and cluttered environments. I was delighted too when they produced a real Atlantic cod for Red Vision to base their fish CGI on. The deadline was extremely tight, but having Graham Collier (the animator) along on the shoot was a great help in speeding up the subsequent CGI process. It was important too that the Big Fish appeared friendly whilst appearing authentic throughout and by virtue of what proved to be a real team effort, we achieved all our objectives and had a lot of fun besides.’
Commercials Unlimited As a creative your job’s already over by the time it comes to shooting your prized piece of work. In theory. Of course in practice you’re more likely to pull your hair out, end up hoarse and put down a deposit on a new ulcer. With Commercials Unlimited I’m pleased to say that I ended up doing none of those things. The guys exuded a calm professionalism and confidence throughout the shoot and, without being fussy, were attentive and courteous both towards our people and the project itself. Budget, timings and details were tight throughout, and we’ll be talking with Commercials Unlimited again as soon as the opportunity presents.’ In the storyboard of course your pooch will do all sorts of wonderful things, performing like a dream every time. Then you get the night-before nerves, as you hope to God that the reality comes somewhere close to the vision in your mind. Commercials Unlimited delivered an outstanding campaign for us for Northern Bank, in circumstances made more difficult by time constraints, technical considerations and a complex brief. However, Chris and the whole CU team were fully committed and engaged from Day One right through to handover. Simon, in particular, deserves special mention for the extraordinary depth of understanding and technical skill he brought to the project as producer – which proved invaluable time and time again.
