Director / DOP Robert Payton

Before the transition to directing commercials, Rob spent 15 years as a TV director at the BBC, and as a commercials director of photography across Europe. His client list includes Leo Burnett, BBDO, and JWT to name but a few. Having built up excellent relationships with brand managers, and agency creatives alike, the transition to directing has been a logical and successful one.

His growing reputation for food and tabletop cinematography coupled with a technical background, and a patient and unflappable temperament make him a unique addition to our roster.

job blog:

The priority was beautiful cinematography and clever distillation of the ideas, so we needed good weather and the right locations to replicate Ireland in full summer with Friesian cows grazing happily. In addition, we needed four interior locations to cover the product enjoyment scenes and South Africa provided the solution.

The agency knew – and was very specific - about what they wanted to achieve and through a combination of Rob’s direction and truly beautiful lighting we ticked all the right boxes. Shot over three highly productive and enjoyable days, we brought the rushes back on 2 x 2TB mirrored hard drives to conduct the post at Rushes in London.

Director's comment

"The toys came out on this Avonmore shoot. I utilised periscope lenses to give us a cow's eye view of blades of grass and mini skater dollies to track around cereal bowls at muesli height!! Great fun to shoot in Cape Town and lots of variety for me as a director. Shooting on RED and making use of the fantastic new Resolve suite at Rushes made for a cutting edge solution to some lovely scripts from IIBBDO." Rob Payton
